Slide Show Presentation
In my project, I explore how both self and government censorship has affected the writing of Dream of Ding Village and the other works of Yan Lianke. Using the format of a google slideshow, I was able to highlight the various forms and effects of self censorship in China, and then specifically elaborate on how they have changed the writing of the novel.

Dream of Ding Village Diorama / Paper
My project displays the dream of Grandpa when his Grandson is being ripped from his grave and is being married off to a woman who he does not know. In my project I wanted to display the reality of Grandpa’s dreams and that his dreams are a prophecy. I used different materials and direct quotes from the book and I used real characters from the book.

Dream of Ding Village Poster/Presentation
In my project I do a character analysis on the character Ding Hui. I looked into the possible reason he took advantage of the people in the village. I also looked into if his motivation for his actions can make it understandable why he made those decisions. I also made some advertisements on what I thought Ding Hui may have made to advertise his businesses based on what I could get from the book.

Dream of Ding Village Painting
My project uses paint to illustrate various aspects of Grandpa’s dreams throughout the book. I used the quote in the center of the painting in order to tie together each piece of the painting and come to the conclusion that in his dreams, Grandpa hid from the fever. As many people use books, movies, or music in order to escape the horrors of reality, I believe that Grandpa used his dreams in order to escape the fever and better understand the reality that he was living in.

Dreams are the Spiritual Component to the Story
Flow Chart
The project of which I created focuses on the dreams within Dream of Ding Village. Using the component of dreams within different religions throughout the history of the world, I draw connections between the Grandfather and Grandson. I use specific dreams to illustrate my points in relation to the two characters and which dreams correlate to different beliefs.

We created a poem conversation piece to reflect on how the characters acted in the book. We focused on the moral aspect and portrayed two different viewpoints reviewing the actions in the book. Symbolism is a key literary element we have in our poem. We use the idea of a storm to talk about the never ending blood and money, but eventually the village becomes a drought. In our project we explore what it means to be greedy and how greed controls the people of Ding Village.

I decided to write a research paper on how I believe that one of the main characters, Grandpa, is suffering from a dissociation disorder. I focused on Grandpa’s dreams and how he reacted to stressful situations to try and pinpoint what disorder he may be suffering from, then explained why I thought that and listed evidence to why I think that way.

Our project was a way to deeper understand the characters in DIng Village. Doing research on the mental health of the characters within the book, as a way to understand their behaviors. We wanted to know why they took the actions they did, and what effects such disorders could have had on them. Pulling text and quotes from the book to back up our thoughts and claims, as well as outside research to help us make accurate inferences.

Dream of Ding Village Paintings
My project uses paintings to show the differences in possible perspectives. I used the left side to show what an event would look like from Grandpa’s point of view and I made his portion of the painting seem foggy. On the right side I used the details from the book to illustrate the current perspective of the book.
