At this small-group, brown-bag seminar, graduate students, faculty, and staff will have the opportunity to connect with New York Times bestselling author and public intellectual, Kevin Birmingham. Birmingham will discuss his experiences writing public scholarship. From publishing his first two books The Most Dangerous Book (2014) and The Sinner and the Saint (2021) to contributing to a range of media including Slate, BBC, and The Chronicle of Higher Education, Birmingham has successfully built a meaningful public-facing career from his scholarship. We welcome attendees to bring a specific project or question for group discussion.

Kevin Birmingham is the author of the New York Times bestseller The Most Dangerous Book, which won the PEN New England Award and the Truman Capote Award for Literary Criticism. He has been named a Public Scholar by the National Endowment for the Humanities, and he received his Ph.D. in English from Harvard. His writing has appeared in Harper’s, The New York Times Book Review, Slate and the Chronicle of Higher Education.
