Scholar-in-Residence: Julia Lupton

Julia Lupton is Professor of English and Comparative Literature at the University of California, Irvine with a joint appointment in Education, and also serves as Associate Dean of Research for the School of Humanities. She is director of UCI’s Humanities Commons and also director of Illuminations: The Chancellor’s Arts and Culture Initiative. Her most recent scholarly books are Thinking with Shakespeare: Essays on Politics and Life (2011) and Citizen-Saints: Shakespeare and Political Theology (2005). She is the co-author with Ellen Lupton of two trade books on design, DIY Kids (2007) and Design Your Life: The Pleasures and Perils of Everyday Things (2009). Lupton is the founder of H.O.T. (Humanities Out There), an initiative that connects UCI faculty, students, and staff with struggling Orange County high schools. Launched in 1997, H.O.T. is a pioneering program in the still-growing field of Public Humanities.
