MEMF joins the 2009 International Year of Astronomy in a global celebration of astronomy and its contributions to society and culture, including the 400th anniversary of the first astronomical observation made through a telescope by Galileo Galilei. Galileo's father, Vincenzo, a member of the Florentine Camerata, a musician and music theorist who combined the practice and theory of music with mathematical discussion of harmony, influenced Galileo's scientific experiments.
The Madison Early Music Festival, celebrating its tenth season, will explore the works of music and the arts that were inspired by scientific discovery that had a tremendous impact on culture and civilization.
